Building Internal Resilience Through Horses
The Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, in partnership with The Mane Intent, developed and evaluated an intervention that combines equine-assisted learning with workshops on expressive arts and psychoeducation in Peterborough, Ontario. The purpose of this intervention is to build resilience and life skills in young women between the ages of 13 and 18 years who are survivors of child maltreatment. Participants are being challenged to move outside of their comfort zone through their interaction with horses, and it is hoped that this experience will help them develop a new perspective on life.
