NATO’ WE HO WIN

Between October 2016- March 2021, The Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services of Saskatchewan (PATHS) worked with partners to facilitate the design, delivery, and research of nato’ we ho win (a Cree word, which can be translated as “the art of self-healing”). nato’ we ho win is a trauma-and-violence-informed, artistic, and cultural program where participants engage in cultural and creative activities to increase stress management skills, social support networks, and knowledge of traditional Indigenous culture and to address issues related to intimate partner violence. This trauma-informed, culturally relevant arts-based intervention was implemented in Moose Jaw, Regina and Prince Albert for Indigenous women who are survivors of family violence. The goal of this intervention is to build resilience, healthy coping skills, and support networks through weekly participation in cultural and creative activities such as storytelling, traditional art forms such as beading or leather work, intuitive art making, traditional medicines and self-care practices, and traditional survival strategies such as harvesting and preserving natural food.  Links to a Facilitators Guide and Program Manual are available at the website below and in the Resources section.
